| to continue to play an important role in facilitating the exchange of emissions data between Canada and other countries; | |
| to compile emissions data collected by Canadian and international institutions on chemical species of concern, including acid- and oxidant-forming gases, POPs and HMs, "new generation" pesticides and greenhouse gases; | |
| to provide up-to-date, quality assured emissions data in customized form, with a high degree of flexibility in the choice of emission sectors, and the spatial and temporal resolution on a variety of gridded geographical scales; | |
| to implement and apply sophisticated emission models and other methods for computing global emissions from natural and open anthropogenic sources; | |
| to assemble global meteorological, climatological and geophysical data for input to models for meteorologically dependent emissions; | |
| to further develop and apply advanced methods for data management, the merging of diverse data sets and the resolution of data to user-specified spatial and temporal scales. |
