Environmental Assessment Scientist / Engineer
In the business for over 50 years, ORTECH Environmental is considered a leader in environmental consulting services to industries across Ontario and beyond. ORTECH is looking for qualified individuals interested and ready for a rewarding challenge to support its environmental assessment team in the Mississauga, Ontario office. This is an intermediate level opportunity with preference given to candidates with prior educational / work experience related to hydroelectric, wind and solar power projects and other developments. However, qualified entry level candidates will also be considered.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in the implementation of Environmental Assessment and public consultation processes
• Plan and coordinate technical and administrative aspects of assigned projects including managing multi-disciplinary teams
• Communicate (written and verbal) with regulatory agencies, public and other stakeholders
• Write technical reports to present the methodology, results and recommendations
• Manage data/information and track issues
• Facilitate the acquisition of data ensuring QA/QC procedures are followed
• Work to schedules and project milestones while maintaining product quality
• Follow ORTECH policies and procedures and client specific safety protocols
Qualifications:
• Bachelor degree in environmental studies (resource management, biology, earth sciences, planning) or related field preferred (Post Secondary degree in related field as a minimum)
• Experience and knowledge in conducting environmental assessments and public consultation
• Knowledge of the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and Green Energy Act
• Understanding of other relevant Ontario legislations and policies an asset
• Excellent computer and analytical skills (use of MS Office suite and other database tools)
• Knowledge of GIS and AutoCad as well as awareness other company related disciplines such as air dispersion modeling, emission inventories, permitting an asset
• Strong aptitude for problem solving and proven ability to meet deadlines
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
• Attention for detail to ensure a high degree of quality assurance and quality control
• A valid drivers license as position may require some travel
