Ontario's Green Energy and Green Economy Act (2009) changed the way in which renewable energy is permitted in the province. The new Renewable Energy Approval (REA) combines the requirements of the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) and the Municipal Planning Act together to create one seamless, streamlined process. This change has created a variety of new requirements for various projects.
The new REA process can be challenging to navigate, particularly for developers with projects of differing technologies.
